Young Nicaraguans lead protests against President Ortega
For the past month, Nicaragua has been hit by anti-government protests. The demos were sparked by unpopular social security reforms, but have now swelled into a broader nationwide revolt against President Daniel Ortega‘s 11-year rule. Young people – mostly students – are leading the protest movement. The government has responded with lethal force: more than 60 people have been killed in the crackdown. FRANCE 24‘s Manon Heurtel reports from a bitterly divided Nicaragua.
